chicago thursday

Oct. 16th, 2008 | 09:10 pm

last night here.. flying out friday afternoon after class. The instructor says we will be done around 1 or 2 at the latest so I'll have to cool my jets for a bit at the airport. Tonight headed up to the Sears Tower. One word.. WOW. Chicago is an amazing town but from that altitude it's a massive beautiful sprawl. Pics will be posted at some point of the trips highlights.

On the way back hit up the Exchequer on south wabash. It was apparently a haunt of Capones! After having the first REAL caesar salad in ages followed by some of the best baby back ribs (with greek potatoes) I can see why! A few Belle's beers helped wash it all down nicely.

A nice walk back to the hotel worked off the first few calories of the huge meal. I need to get the diet in gear once back at home.

chicago wednesday

Oct. 16th, 2008 | 09:06 pm

class continued, good stuff though. Afterwards went up to find the closer Billy Goats, somewhat famous place. Had a few beers and got a tshirt. Then popped down to Mother Hubbards, again, to watch the debates, eat some food and a few more beers. The Mother Hubbard Porter is to die for!
Apparently I didn't get their hot wings last time because this time they were scorching hot. Lucky for me it was cold and a little drizzly outside. Cooled off with the walk back to the hotel.

chicago - tuesday

Oct. 15th, 2008 | 07:45 am

Tuesday - more class. Had lunch at a thai place (My Thai) on Michigan. Odd google reviews didn't give it much praise. I liked it. After class met up with two of the local guys from the office, Song and Dan. Headed up to Uno's for pizza, chicago style. Was more than worth the wait. Afterwards walked down to hubbard street to a joint called O Calihans (i think). After a hour or two of 80s music and rogue dead guy ale on tap it was time for the guys to get home to the burbs. Weather was nice and cool. Great for the few block walk back to hotel.

monday - chicago trip

Oct. 15th, 2008 | 07:39 am

monday was the first day of clearcase class. Overall it was quite good, the class teacher knows his stuff having been a developer and consultant for years. After class we walked over to millenium park and saw the "bean" a huge shiny reflective object in middle of the park. Walked around a bit and then decided to ride train down to Addison. Home of Wrigley.. baseball mecca.

a week with buddy

Jul. 17th, 2008 | 06:02 pm

it's been a week and i've just started walking all three dogs at once on the doggie death march. Also known as the daily 1.5 mile trek up and down the neighborhood streets in this hot humidity. It makes for some dead tired dogs for a hour or two afterwards....
